Bridge city Surat to get six new bridges next year

Surat: The Diamond City of Surat is renowned as the ‘Bridge City’ due to its numerous bridges. However, the city also contends with high traffic due to its population and the considerable number of vehicles. In response to the traffic issue, the Surat Municipal Corporation has undertaken construction projects for flyover bridges and railway overbridges, within the city. Currently, the city boasts 121 small and large bridges, with plans to add six more within the upcoming year.

The SMC recently inaugurated the Bhathena Bridge and Kalakunj Khadi Bridge, aiming to ease traffic congestion. Additionally, significant progress is being made on the Saroli Railway Overbridge, linking Olpad to Surat, anticipated to be completed by December 2023.

The SMC’s Bridge Department has six ongoing construction projects and plans for an additional 15 bridges in the pipeline. Among these, tenders have been released for three bridges, while estimates have been announced for three more. Feasibility checks are underway for the remaining bridges.

Ongoing projects include:

– Surat Olpad Saroli Railway Bridge

– Railway underpass near Dindoli Sai Mandir

– Innovative Fluorine Flyover Bridge

– Bridge leading to Karwada near Siddharth Nagar Canal

– Sachin Railway Overbridge, adjacent to Suda’s built bridge

– Flyover Bridge at Katargam Gajera Circle

Tender announcements have been made for three bridges:

– Saket Dham Bay Bridge

– Udhana Zone Un Khadi Bridge

– Another Bay Bridge at Unn
