Australian Deputy PM Marles speaks on his experience of watching Cricket World Cup Final in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles attended the Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present with him both the leaders took selfies and enjoyed the game, which Australia won in the end.

In an interview with a TV channel, the Deputy Prime Minister discussed the relationship between PM Modi and PM Albanese. He also commented on the noise made by the crowd of 1.30 lakh people during the match.

Regarding the relationship between PM Modi and PM Albanese, Marles said, “Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Modi have formed a strong relationship. I had the real honor last night; I got to sit with Modi for some of the match, and it was incredible to see the reaction of the Indian crowd to Prime Minister Modi. At one moment, we took a selfie, and the first thing Prime Minister Modi said to me was that you have to send it to your prime minister right now. I did it in the middle of the night, and I got a response straightaway. So I can tell you that our prime minister was watching the game at what would be two or three in the morning. He wanted me to pass his regards to Prime Minister Modi, so they have a very close relationship.”

While talking about the game, the Australian Deputy PM said, “It was an incredible, extraordinary experience for me. I was not expecting that. The teams played an amazing game on just the most extraordinary stage. It is the biggest cricket ground in the world, completely full, and I have never heard noise like that… the noise of the crowd was astounding. I spoke to the Australian cricketers after that in the dressing room, and they said they had never heard anything like that before. The cricketers mentioned that they have heard noise like that in various IPL games.”
