November 23, 2023
Gandhinagar: A crime has been registered at Sector 21 Police Station here in the state capital against an unknown individual in connection with the creation of a fake Facebook account impersonating IPS Hasmukh Patel, Chairman of the Police Recruitment Board. This marks the third occurrence in the last two months where an imposter has created a fake ID of the IPS officer. Hasmukh Patel took to Twitter to alert social media users about the fraudulent account, emphasizing the importance of caution.
Upon examining the URL of the falsely created Facebook account, it was identified as incorrect. Several individuals reported receiving messages from the imposter’s account. Hasmukh Patel, who has an active presence on social media and has amassed a considerable following, regularly updates followers on the recruitment process. Cybercriminals are taking advantage of this by persistently creating fake accounts. This incident is the third in the last two months where the police have registered a case for the creation of a fraudulent Facebook account in Hasmukh Patel’s name.
Just a day ago, a similar incident involved the former mayor of Gandhinagar, where a fake Facebook account was used to send friend requests and demand money. DeshGujarat
