New Delhi: The Union government, during the ongoing winter session of Parliament in Lok Sabha, shared details about the farmers benefiting from government procurement of farm produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP). According to this data, the government spent the highest amount on the procurement of Wheat in Punjab and Haryana, followed by Madhya Pradesh, in the last five years.

For purchasing paddy in the last five years, the top four states where the government spent the most on buying produce at MSP were Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Haryana.

The data from the five years also shows that Gujarat was among the states where the government spent the least on the procurement of paddy and wheat. However, in Gujarat, around 16,000 farmers producing oilseeds benefitted from procurement at MSP.

The Government of India fixes Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 22 mandated agricultural crops viz paddy, jowar, bajra, maize, ragi, arhar, moong, urad, groundnut, soyabean, sunflower, sesamum, nigerseed, cotton, wheat, barley, gram, masur (lentil), rapeseed/mustard, safflower, jute, copra and Fair and Remunerative Price for sugarcane, on the basis of the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs &Prices (CACP), views of State Governments and Central Ministries/Departments concerned.

State-wise and crop-wise details of number of farmers benefitted and the amount spent on procurement of agricultural crops at MSP during last five years are given at Annexure
