PM Modi to inaugurate World’s Largest Corporate Office Hub ‘Surat Diamond Burse’

Surat: Surat, considered the economic capital of the state, is reaching new horizons of development in the diamond and textile sector. The ‘Surat Diamond Bourse,’ constructed in the Khajod area of Surat, will become a landmark for the economic development of the state and the country. The Diamond Bourse, a linchpin for economic development, will provide a new sheen to Surat’s diamond industry. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bourse on 17th December, as part of the ambitious ‘Surat Dream City’ project, featuring a Central Business District (CBD) and social, commercial, and educational infrastructure in a 35.54-acre area. On the occasion of the inauguration of the world’s largest corporate office hub, built at an estimated cost of Rs. 3400 crores, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Central and State Ministers, Chairman of Diamond Bourse Shri Vallabhbhai Lakhani, Director Sarva Shri Mathurbhai Savani, Govindbhai Dholakia, Laljibhai Patel, Chairman of Surat Diamond Institute Shri Dineshbhai Navadia, and Bourse Committee Diamond industry professionals, including members, will be present.
While Surat has a global reputation for diamond manufacturing, with the realization of this Bourse, Surat will now become a hub for diamond trading as well, adding another chapter to Surat’s development saga. The main objective of setting up the Bourse is to promote the import, export, and trade of diamonds, gems, and jewelry from India and to provide modern infrastructure and a global platform for diamond trading to small and large enterprises, MSMEs involved in diamond production and business. Traders from 175 countries will get a unique platform to buy polished diamonds in Surat. What is special is that not a single person or company, but 4,200 traders have come together to realize the world-class project of SDB.
Previously, the world’s largest office building was America’s Pentagon, which has a construction of 65 lakh square feet, but now the place of the world’s largest building has been taken by Diamond Bourse Building, constructed in 67 lakh square feet in Surat, Gujarat. Not only this, the building spread over nine towers is a green building, and has the highest platinum gradation for renovation and green energy. Also, all the facilities that can be said to be the best in the world are made available here.
Gujarat has become prominent in many dimensions like the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel Sahib Statue of Unity, the largest Solar Renewable Energy Park-Charanka, the largest Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, similarly now Diamond Bourse in Surat is the largest corporate office hub in the world. Here, diamond traders from abroad will find a new world-class business hub. It will directly benefit the economy of the state and the country, and thousands of people will also get employment opportunities.
Diamond Bourse is the world’s largest interconnected building. More than 4500 offices of Bourse are connected with each other. Auction of diamond raw material from around the world, high-value goods, including rough, cut, and polished diamonds, studded jewelry, diamond-gold-silver-platinum jewelry, will be available for buying and selling here in large quantities. 27 international jewelry showrooms will be constructed here in which businessmen from abroad and their families will be able to buy diamond jewelry. The diamond industry of Surat has a business of 2 lakh crores, it is likely to increase to 4 lakh crores if the diamond bourse materializes, that is, a business of 2 lakh crores per year will be done through SDB alone. By which the state and central government will benefit greatly in tax revenue.

Bourse has 131 high-speed lifts installed, the speed of which is 3 meters per second. The lift will be managed by a sophisticated destination control system. So it will take three minutes for any person to reach the 16th floor. 15 acres of the entire Bourse premises of 35.54 acres have only a garden area based on the Panchatatva theme. This garden is designed according to the nine planets as per Vastu Shastra. There is not a single office which will not get sunlight. As per the ideal architecture, the distance between the two towers is sufficient so that all the offices get enough air and sunlight. Even if a person enters from any of the 9 towers of Bourse, traders, visitors, it will take only 3 minutes to reach any office.
Bourse’s core committee member and Padmashri Mathurbhai Savani said that the Dream City (Diamond Diamond Research and Mercantile City) project was inaugurated on 15/02/2015 at Khajod, near Magdalla, Surat by the then Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel. Along with this, Mrs. Anandiben Patel also laid the foundation stone of the Surat Diamond Bourse project included in the Dream City project. Later, Former Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani also gave generous support for the speedy implementation of the Bourse.
Surat Diamond Bourse is set to become the world’s largest trading market. With the establishment of the Diamond Bourse, countries worldwide will converge on Surat for the purchase of polished diamonds, elevating the global reputation of Surat. Over 4,200 offices have been constructed, with international diamond traders, including those from Surat and Mumbai, acquiring offices. This consolidation allows for the trading of both rough and polished diamonds in one location, creating employment opportunities for 1.5 lakh individuals. Mr. Savani highlighted that the inauguration of the stock exchange by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will signify a historic milestone for the Indian and global business community.
Expressing delight that Surat is transitioning from global recognition in diamond manufacturing to becoming a hub for diamond trading, Mr. Mathurbhai Savani emphasized that the Diamond Bourse will evolve into a comprehensive destination for platinum, silver diamonds, and Labgrown diamonds. It is poised to attract buyers from around the world, with renowned diamond companies and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) entrepreneurs who couldn’t afford offices in Mumbai also securing offices here. This direct connectivity with foreign buyers is expected to benefit all traders significantly. To ensure environmental protection and pollution control, wastewater will be recycled through a 1800 KLD Suez Treatment Plant, and a 400 KW solar power plant has been implemented.
Vallabhbhai Lakhani, Chairman of Diamond Bourse, expressed gratitude for the cooperative efforts of the State Government, Surat Municipal Corporation, and District Administration officials in the swift establishment of the Diamond Bourse. Mr. Vallabhbhai cited challenges faced by those in the diamond industry, highlighting Surat’s prominence in manufacturing and Mumbai’s role as a trading hub. Previously, traders had to maintain offices in both cities, incurring high costs. However, with the realization of the Bourse, the diamond trading system will now be exclusively available in Surat, known for its forefront position in diamond cutting and polishing.
Mr. Lakhani mentioned that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi suggested the use of new hydrogen energy, contributing to environmental protection. The implementation of this suggestion is underway. Chairman of Surat Diamond Institute, Mr. Dineshbhai Navadia, lauded the Diamond Bourse as India’s largest customs clearance house. He noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s determination to rejuvenate Surat’s diamond industry, similar to the commitment for the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel Sahib, has culminated in the construction of the Bourse. With ongoing cooperation from State and Central Governments, Surat Diamond Bourse is poised to give a new identity to the global diamond industry, positioning Surat on the world stage and earning recognition as a global tourist destination.
SDB is set to become a hub for international diamond trade, offering traders multifaceted facilities.
The Bourse, spanning 65 lakh sq. ft., features a grand entrance gate, a reception area, security surveillance and a control room, a trading hall, a self-deposit vault, a museum, a food zone, a bank, a customs office, an amphitheater, a money transfer desk, a travel desk, a retail zone, and an auction facility. It boasts multipurpose spaces like, a security control room, and a Diamond Club. Offices of varying sizes, from 300 square feet to 1,00,000 square feet, have been constructed. The Bourse comprises a total of 9 towers, ground floor + 15 floors, and 2 basements. The expansive campus offers parking for 11,000 two-wheelers and 5,100 four-wheelers. The auction house is equipped with Israel’s C4i technology, operated from a central command and control center with over 4,000 CCTVs for polished and rough diamond auctions. The building is fortified with an impenetrable security shield through a sophisticated advanced security system with cameras.

The city of Surat is the global epicenter of diamond production. Today, 8 out of 10 diamonds in the world are cut, polished, and processed in Surat. Gujarat accounts for 80% of India’s total diamond exports. 90% of Gujarat’s diamonds are cut and polished in Surat. The industry directly employs more than 9 lakh people, which is why Surat has been given the title of the ‘Silky City Sparkling with Diamonds.’
