79% construction of AIIMS Rajkot complete: Union Govt

New Delhi: 79% of the construction work for the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot has been completed, as stated by the Union Government during the ongoing winter session of Parliament. MBBS classes have commenced, and OPD services have also been operationalized in the health institute.

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Here is her reply:

Setting up of 22 new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country has been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Out of the sanctioned 22 AIIMS, 6 AIIMS at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) became operational in 2012.  Details of remaining 16 AIIMS is at Annexure.
