AMC gears up for upcoming Kankaria Carnival, Flower Show, and National Book Fair

Ahmedabad: The Amdavadis will get to enjoy three different events from December 25 to January 15, as the city civic body is gearing up to organise the Kankaria Carnival, the Ahmedabad Flower Show, and the 9th Amdavad National Book Fair.
The Kankaria Carnival is scheduled to take place at the renowned Kankaria Lake from December 25 to 31. The carnival promises a diverse array of events. Attendees can enjoy lok dayro, Bollywood fusion, instrumentals, garba, and various dance forms such as bharatnatyam and kuchipudi. Additionally, there will be performances of patriotic songs by senior citizens, sufi ghazal, shiv tandav, classical singing, and table vadan, among others.
A major highlight will be the laser show themed ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp,’ and plans include a virtual reality show on Heritage Amdavad. The entrance of Kankaria will feature different selfie points with themes like Chandrayaan-3, Dhanush, and ‘My City, My Pride.’
The inaugural day will showcase programmes under the theme ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam—Ek Dharti, Ek Parivaar—Ek Bhavishya.’ This will encompass Gujarat’s heritage garba, Rajasthan’s ghoomar, Punjab’s Bhangda, Assam’s Bihu, Maharashtra’s Lavani, and more. Renowned artists such as Kirtidan Gadhvi, Parth Oza, Arun Dev Yadav, and others will perform, and entry to these events is free for visitors.
The Ahmedabad Flower Show, taking place at the Sabarmati Riverfront Event Ground from December 30 to January 15, will feature diverse varieties like petunia, cactus plants, torenia, marigold, gazania, gerbera, lilium, amaron, orchids, ornamental kale, and more. Sculptures depicting landmarks like the new parliament building, the Toran of Vadnagar, Vikram Lander (Chandrayaan-3), the Statue of Unity, the Sun Temple of Modhera, women empowerment, and cartoon characters for kids will be displayed. A 400-metre flower structure will also be showcased.
An entry fee of Rs 50 has been set for those above 12 years of age from Monday to Friday, while the weekend price is Rs 75. An online ticketing system and the option to purchase tickets from all city civic centres will be available.
9th Amdavad National Book Fair is scheduled from January 6 to 12, in conjunction with the Global Vibrant Gujarat Summit at the Gujarat University ground, the book fair’s timings are from 12 noon to 10 pm. AMC is coordinating with various educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, libraries, and NGOs in the city to ensure maximum participation from students.
