December 28, 2023
Gandhinagar: State Health Minister Rishikesh Patel in today’s media briefing, stated that there is no need to panic or worry about the JN.1 variant of Corona but it is necessary to be vigilant.
Regarding the corona situation in the state, the Minister mentioned that as of today there are currently 66 active cases infected with Corona. Among them, 47 cases are active in Ahmedabad, 10 in Rajkot, 4 in Gandhinagar, and 1 each in Dahod, Gir Somanath, Kutch, Morbi, and Sabarkantha. Currently, only two corona-positive patients are under treatment in the hospital in the state.
The genome sequencing report of the corona cases registered in the state last week came on December 27. In this report, 36 cases of the JN.1 variant have been reported. Out of these, 22 patients have recovered, and currently, 14 patients are in home isolation. Therefore, none of the JN.1 variant-positive patients required hospitalization.
The minister further mentioned that a total of 8,426 COVID tests were conducted in the state from December 1 to December 28, and 99 corona-positive cases have been reported.
Looking at these numbers, the current average positivity rate of Corona is 0.86 percent. From this, it can be concluded that the prevalence of Corona is very low, but people, especially those with comorbidities, need to be vigilant, he added. The number of JN.1 variant cases is the highest in the state due to the genome sequencing of every corona-positive patient in the state. The minister also stated that the active cases in Gujarat are still lower than in other states of the country. DeshGujarat
