Another death due to kite flying string in Gujarat; A 25-year old woman latest victim

Nadiad: There has been another death due to kite string in Gujarat. The latest death ahead of the Kite flying festival this year has occurred in Nadiad town of Central Gujarat. Nadiad Town Police has taken cognizance of this incident and started a probe.

A 25-year-old woman from Fateprua road in Nadiad, Mayuriben Hansrajbhai Sargara was today returning from her job on Honda Active two-wheeler when a kite string cut her throat on Vaniyavad-Fatepura road and slit it. She fell from a two-wheeler with heavy bleeding.

The locals gathered and managed to send her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead before treatment.

It’s worth noting that earlier a youth from Ahmedabad died due to a kite string injury in Central Gujarat when he was visiting a temple with his family members this year.  While the government has banned Chinese kite strings to prevent such incidents, the fact is, that even Indian-made kite strings paid with glass and other items can pose a danger to life of two-wheeler riders.

Millions of people celebrate Uttarayan-Makarsankranti every year across Gujarat on the 14th and 15th of January. To cut someone else’s kite or to prevent their kite from being cut in the air, kite enthusiasts use lethal sharp kite strings (maanjaa). Such kite thread when collides with a two-wheeler rider, it cuts the throat and cause severe injury or death of the victim. DeshGujarat
