Boating, kayaking on Sabarmati Riverfront shut down
January 20, 2024
Ahmedabad: Just two days after the boat capsizing incident occurred in Vadodara’s Harni lake, resulting in the loss of 14 lives, authorities have ordered the shutting down of boating, water rides, and kayaking services at the Sabarmati riverfront in the city. On Friday, the SRFDCL ordered the two contractors running boat and kayaking services at three different locations to shut down their operations and asked them to submit all the mandatory permits.
It has been learned that the operating agencies had not submitted the mandatory licences from the police department and Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services. Therefore, they have been instructed to discontinue operations until they submit these papers.
To run boating and paddling services, operators need to submit various permissions from authorities like the fire department, the Road and Building Department of the Gujarat Govt., the Gujarat Maritime Board, and the police department. As these two firms did not submit all the permits, the operations have been shut down for the security of the visitors using these services in large numbers. DeshGujarat
