Stones pelted at ‘Ram Procession’ in rural Kheralu; tear gas shells lobbed

Mehsana: With the Pran Pratishtha Mohotsav of Ayodhya Ram Mandir scheduled to be held on Monday, a procession of Lord Shri Ram was organized today in Kheralu. However, anti-social elements caused a stampede by pelting stones during the procession, leading the police to release tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

The incident occurred this afternoon when the procession of Lord Ram in rural Kheralu reached Belim Vas around four o’clock in the evening, and people suddenly started pelting stones at the pilgrims from the surrounding areas. Video clips circulating on social media depicted stones being thrown by men and women from rooftops.

According to the police, stone-pelting occurred in the Hatadiya area of Belim Vas during the procession. The reported cause was attributed to the loud music from the DJ and the bursting of firecrackers in the neighborhood, particularly in Belim Vas, which is a predominantly Muslim locality.

It is learned that the police had to fire around 10 rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the crowds engaged in stone pelting. About 15 people have been rounded up in this matter. It has come to light that five people suffered minor injuries in the stone-pelting incident during the procession of Lord Ram.  DeshGujarat
