February 03, 2024
Ahmedabad: The cybercrime police apprehended Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr. Amit Nayak on Friday. Nayak has been booked for vandalising the wall graffiti of the BJP symbol and spreading the video of his actions.
BJP campaign and communication convener Shahpur Abhay Shah mentioned in the FIR that he came across Nayak’s video on X (formerly Twitter) on January 29, in which Nayak could be seen painting over the BJP wall graffiti of ‘Fir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar.’
Shah mentioned in the FIR that Nayak’s actions may have caused unrest in the area. Shah also met Nayak to tell him that this was not the way to protest. However, on Abhay’s request to remove the post from social media, Nayak reportedly threatened him with severe consequences and insisted on continuing to circulate the video. Subsequently, Shah filed a complaint with the cybercrime police.
The cybercrime police registered a complaint against Nayak under IPC sections 153 (offence done to provoke a riot), 290 (committing a public nuisance), and 506(1) (criminal intimidation).
It is noteworthy that Amit Nayak’s actions had led to a verbal argument between him and Ahmedabad City Congress Chief Himmatsingh Patel. Patel disapproved of Nayak’s act and stated that if today Congress starts removing BJP slogans from walls, tomorrow BJP would do the same against Congress slogans.DeshGujarat
