CJI Chandrachud skips 72nd MSU convocation; attends it virtually

Vadodara: Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Chandrachud skipped Vadodara based Maharaja Sayajirao University (MS University)’s 72nd convocation function today. He attended the convocation function virtually however. According to MSU Vice Chancellor, the Chief Justice couldn’t physically remain present due to poor health. The function today was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Education Minister Rushikesh Patel among others.

Chancellor of MSU, Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad in her speech wished recovery of CJI Chandrachud who is unwell. She pointed out that Chief Justice Chandrachud’s family had a special connect with Baroda state amd Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad. She said Chief Justice of India’s grandfather Dr. Chandrachud was Chief Medical Officer of Baroda state from 1925 to 1947 and present residence of Vice Chancellor, ‘Dhanvantari’ was official residence of Dr. Chandrachud.

In his virtual address, CJI congratulated the students and especially noted that most of the gold medals have been achieved by female students this year. CJI apologized for not attending the function physically. He recalled his father who would spend vacation time in Vadodara at Dr. Chandrachud’s house. CJI mentioned Dr. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and King of England in his virtual address. Over 13,000 students from 14 faculties and 3 colleges of MS University were presented with degrees. More than 300 bright students were presented with Gold medals. DeshGujarat
