Dairies in Gujarat to purchase cattle dung for Re. 1 per kg in near future: Minister

Ganhinagar: Dairy organizations and milk producing federations will purchase cattle dung from cattle keepers and make bio fertilizers and bio gas out of that in near future. This was announced by Cooperation minister Jagdish Panchal in the State assembly on Monday.

He said the milk producing federations and dairies will collect cattle dung by paying door to door visits to cattle keepers and pay Re. 1 for each kg of dung. Thus the cattle keepers will not just earn by selling milk but also earn extra by selling cow dung. He further said that dairies will produce power using this dung.

It’s worth noting that North Gujarat based Banas Dairy already purchases cattle dung from cattle-keepers and make payment for it. Banas utilizes the stock of cattle dung to generate bio-gas and operate bio-gas pumps that sell gas to CNG-run vehicles. Renown car manufacturer Suzuki Motors has also partnered with Banas to open four such pumps. National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is also actively working in this domain. The Central government has recently given huge thrust on increasing the use of biogas and bio fertilizers. DeshGujarat
