March 04, 2024
Gandhinagar: Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia today said, if a political party loses a cord with people, it can’t survive for long and becomes an NGO.
He said it was a matter of faith tor people that Ram Mandir should be constructed and it was achieved constitutionally through court order, but Congress leaders rejected invitation for Pran Pratishshtha ceremony. I expressed my voice that this hurts sentiments of people and such political decision must not be taken, but appeared that those who took such decision, and whoever drafted it lacked dialogue with the people. I tried to send message to the top but I couldn’t get success. Going a step forward I resigned today. I now feel relieved and mukt (free).
Modhwadia said, the way it’s going on in the Congress party, the results of that are before our eyes in Gujarat and across the country. This is going on for last five to seven years. They have to do atmakhoj(self search). If they do that they will sustain or they would see the situation like it is nowadays.
Modhwadia said, he joined Congress in 1982 when he was a student. He started from Porbandar taluka youth Congress and became the leader of opposition in his first term as MLA. He said he worked in Congress in difficult time, but for long time he was feeling suffocated. Modhwadia went on to say that he left party with very heavy heart as he had given his blood and sweat to Congress party, it was difficult to leave. He said his supporters and well-wishers in Porbandar had feeling that the way Congress is being run, he would not be able to bring social and economical change in the lives of the people for which he had joined Congress.
Modhwadia said he travelled highest and gave highest programmes as party leader. He said he has complain against none. He said it’s the Congress party that has to do self search. He said people from his constituency and across the State have given him abundance of love and he would take a decision on his next journey in politics after meeting his supporters, well-wishers and cadres.
