Gujarat CM inspects KhariCut canal rejuvenation project; walks on the road built above canal
March 11, 2024
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today morning visited the site of Rs. 1200 crore KhariCut canal rejuvenation project and reviewed the work under progress. Patel inspected the road built on the canal under the first phase of Kharikat Canal, which includes the stretch from Jalpa Co-operative Society, Naroda (Chainage 1500) to Ashraya Apartment Nicol Canal Road (Chainage 3240).
A 22 km-long KhariCut canal passes through the areas of East Ahmedabad from Naroda to Vinzol. The locals face flooding, garbage, littering, bad smell, and other issues due to open canal. The state government’s Irrigation department is contributing half the share of Rs 1,200 crore Kharicut Canal rejuvenation project. The rest of the share is contributed by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) which is executing the project. 1200 crore Kharicut canal redevelopment project involving the installation of continuous precast parapet boxes over the 22km canal, the upgrade of 40 bridges, and the installation of 40 small green patches and fountains along the canal.
As part of the development of the canal, AMC is constructing two Precast RCC boxes of 2.5-meter width each and two storm water boxes of 6 meters and 3.3 meters.
The precast RCC and stormwater boxes are designed in such a manner that the water will be able to flow with a speed of 73.63 cubic meters per second through it. The project will also include laying a drainage line beneath the canal and developing roads on both sides of the canal. This will help nearby residents and commuters. There will also be street lights on the canal roads.
With the development of the roads on both sides of the canal, it will come in the level of the currently available roads on both sides of the canal. Since the canal passes via AMC wards like Naroda, Noble Nagar, Odhav, Nikol, Thakkarbapa Nagar, Virat Nagar, Arubuda Nagar, and IndraPura, the latest project will solve the long pending drainage issues in these areas too.
The canal is being covered by a 100-foot road, and canal water will flow from under. This will give people relief from traffic as well as pollution. DeshGujarat
