Ribadiya to withdraw petition against Bhayani’s victory on Visavadar seat
March 18, 2024
Visavadar: BJP leader Harshad Ribadiya is set to withdraw his petition challenging the victory of Bhupat Bhayani from the Visavadar seat in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly election. This move will pave the way for the announcement of by-elections for the seat.
The Election Commission of India declared by-polls for five vacant assembly seats on Saturday, but there was no announcement regarding the sixth vacant seat of Visavadar. The reason for this was the pending court case filed by BJP’s Harshad Ribadiya challenging Bhupat Bhayani’s victory from the Visavadar seat. Ribadiya had filed a petition disputing the election due to what he claimed was a technical error in Bhayani’s nomination form. Later, Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.
As the case was pending even when both Ribadiya and Bhayani are now in the BJP, Ribadiya is now going to withdraw the petition. This move aims to pave the way for the announcement of by-polls for the Visavadar seat. The efforts of BJP and Bhayani are in the direction to ensure voting for this seat alongside the Lok Sabha elections on May 7. DeshGujarat
