Man attempts to set ablaze Shankaracharya Math in Bharuch

Bharuch: A segment of the Shankaracharya Math, operated by the Dwarka Shardapeeth in Bharuch, sustained partial damage when an unidentified individual, dressed in a black hoodie jacket with a face mask and white skull cap, attempted to set fire to the building by sprinkling flammable liquid while the seer was conducting rituals around 5:30 in the morning today. It is learned that the accused threw some paper which allegedly had the message “Gustakh Pir Ki Saja, Sar Tan Se Juda”.

The Gujarat Police has yet to apprehend the perpetrator. The video suggests that the person ran out of the flammable liquid he was using, limiting the fire to one part of the Math. However, the intention behind the act is clear. We are taking this incident seriously, especially considering the ongoing conflict between the Math and a neighboring dargah regarding land ownership, stated Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police cordoned off the part of the temple premises that the suspect had ignited.

According to Muktanand Swami, the seer, the individual entered the Math premises around 5:30 am through the back door, poured an inflammable liquid across the area, and set fire to a portion of the Math. Before fleeing, the perpetrator also threw some pieces of paper containing threatening messages into the air.

Swami has alleged that the incident may be linked to an ongoing dispute between the Math and a minority community that had constructed a dargah on the adjacent land, which Swami claims belongs to the Math.

Swami also stated that he believes the message on the note was directed at him.

The police have formed seven teams, including the local police station, local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, and other units, to locate the suspect. DeshGujarat”
