Over 1100 Madresas in Gujarat under scanner as NCPCR seeks report

Gandhinagar: Over 1100 Madresas across Gujarat are under scanner over directives issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The teams under District Education Officer across Gujarat are physically paying visits to Madresas to collect prescribed details.

Some of the items being surveyed include gathering of details of non-Muslim children in Madresas, availability of Building Use (BU) permission and Fire Safety rules, and source of money for salaries paid in Madresas.

Survey also covers details of timing of studies, name and address of Madresa-operating trust or organization, names of students, names of teachers, details of any government grant or aid is received.

According to an official of Ahmedabad district, there are 175 such locations in Ahmedabad city. As per the Right to Education act, chapter 2, section 1, getting education of constitutional right of children. The education department has concern regarding whether the children get such education in Madresas. Google sheets are given to Madresa operators to fill up. Child’s address, father’s name, father’s address, Aadhar DISE number etc details that are required and sought for tracking of children by Education department. 175 teams visited Madreas in Ahmedabad city.

All District Education Offices(DEO) and TPEOs across Gujarat are asked to collect these details and file a report, which shall be eventually sent to NCPCR by the State government. NCPCR has sought details listed above from other States as well.

School Principal attacked

A school principal who was out to survey a Madrasa in migrant Muslims majority Dariyapur area of city was attacked by locals.

As per the order of the Education department, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad district has formed teams to pay visit to Madresa and collect the details sought by NCPCR.

Bapunagar based Smruti school’s principal was out to visit prescribed Madresa today morning. As the Madresa was close, the principal was taking photograph of the place as evidence that he ineed had visited the place as per the order of DEO but it was closed.

As the principal was taking photograph, the locals attacked him. The incident took place near Sultan Saiyed mosque. The principal and DEO official reached police station to file complaint against the violant mob.
