Four ISIS Terrorists held at Ahmedabad Airport: Gujarat ATS

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Terror Squad of Gujarat Police today arrested four terrorists at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city. All the arrested individuals are associated with the Islamic State and are residents of Sri Lanka. After the arrest, the accused terrorists were produced in Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court, which remanded them to 14 days of police custody.

The four accused Mohammad Nusrat, Mohammad Nufran, Mohammad Faris, and Mohammad Razdin are Sri Lankan nationals and active members of the banned terrorist organization.

Addressing the media Gujarat DGP Vikash Sahay said, “Information was received that 4 people, namely, Mohammad Nusrat, Mohammad Nufran, Mohammad Faris and Mohammad Razdin. These 4 people are Sri Lankan nationals and are active members of the banned terror outfit Islamic State. All four of them are completely radicalised by the ISIS ideology and they are going to come to India to commit a terror attack. As per the information, they were going to reach Ahmedabad on May 18 or 19 either by railway or flight. Teams were formed and strategy was created based on the information received…Passenger lists of trains and flights coming from the south were analyzed.”

“All 4 of them were traveling from Chennai to Ahmedabad on the same PNR no. through an Indigo flight no. 6E 848. As they were from Sri Lanka, so with the help of sister agencies verification was done in Colombo too for confirmation,” he added.

ATS SP Sunil Joshi told the media, “On May 18, we received information that four people were travelling to Ahmedabad from Sri Lanka… They were going to execute a terror activity and are associated with a banned terrorist organisation… We detained them from the airport. They told us that they are Sri Lankan residents and their language is Tamil. With the help of a private Tamil translator, we interrogated them. Since February 2024, they have been in contact with an ISIS handler named Abu, who resides in Pakistan and moves between Pakistan, the UK, and Dubai. They became members of ISIS and were prepared to carry out any kind of terror activity.”

“On Abu’s instructions, they came to India to conduct a terrorist operation. Abu also provided them with 4 lakh in Sri Lankan currency and told them that upon landing in Ahmedabad, they would receive the location of their weapons. They were nabbed after landing in Ahmedabad and upon checking their phone we found the location of weapons. Three weapons, including a pistol and 20 live cartridges, have been found. They originated from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. These four individuals do not have any knowledge about how these weapons arrived here. We also recovered the ISIS flag from the place where we recovered arms and ammunition,” the senior police official said.

The ATS has also recovered encrypted chats from the terrorists’ phones which they were using to contact their handler Abu. The arrest of the four ISIS terrorists comes at a time when Surat Police is already investigating the Maulvi Sohail Abubakar case. DeshGujarat
