Gandhinagar: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday regarding the alleged mismanagement of Ghantakarna Mahavir Mandir in Mahudi.
Petitioner Jayesh Mehta, a social worker from Ahmedabad, through advocate Dharmesh Gurjar, seeks directives for the charity commissioner to form a committee to investigate and audit the temple trust’s accounts over the past 12 years.
The petitioner also urged the High Court to instruct the charity commissioner and the relevant police inspector to address complaints made by the petitioner and others regarding the alleged misappropriation of public donations by temple committee members. The petitioner referenced earlier allegations that during the 2016 Demonetization, committee members were involved in exchanging demonetized currency notes for a substantial 20% commission and other financial misconduct.
The PIL further alleged that Mukesh Modi, chairman of Adarsh Cooperative Bank, purchased 65 kg of gold in the temple’s name and questioned the lack of transparency in that transaction. Highlighting these instances, the petitioner called for an investigation by a committee and the police. DeshGujarat
