Amreli Police arrests Nigerian woman accused of nationwide multi-crore fraud from Haryana

Amreli: The cyber police team of Amreli has arrested a 27-year-old Nigerian national, Veronika Andrew Annikalathbo on 29th May, from Haryana, for defrauding a young man from Savarkundla of 14.8 lakh rupees. The fraud took place a year ago when the accused used social media platforms to lure victims with promises of lucrative returns in foreign currency.
The investigation revealed that the gang was operating across multiple states, including Gujarat, Haryana, Odisha, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Orissa. Veronika, who resided in Haryana’s Gurugram area, was identified as the mastermind behind the crime. The police raid led to the seizure of multiple mobile phones, laptops, and cash. The accused used 28 different phone numbers for the fraud. The police recovered 8 fake Facebook IDs and 3 email accounts. Nigerian passport was also seized from the accused.
The victim, a man from Savarkundla, fell into the trap set by the accused via social media, calls and text messages, who promised returns in foreign currency. Different transactions were made amounting to 14.9 lakhs. Upon realising the scam, he reported the matter to the police a year ago. Arrests were made on 29th May. Authorities are now investigating and identifying more victims who might have been duped in a similar manner. DeshGujarat
