New Delhi: After an extensive six-week, seven-phase voting period, the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is underway, with final results expected later today. Voting, which occurred between April 19 and June 1 across 543 Lok Sabha seats, will determine one representative per seat for the Lower House of Parliament. A majority of 272 seats is required for any party or coalition to form the government. This year’s election was the second-longest since India’s inaugural election in 1951-52.
Vote counting has begun under tight security. Trends usually emerge within an hour, and results are generally clear by the afternoon. The counting of EVM votes will commence 30 minutes after the postal ballots, according to poll officials.

This year, the BJP has aimed for 370 seats for itself and 400 seats for the NDA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP’s primary campaigner, led the effort with over 200 public meetings, including rallies and roadshows.
