Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked a Food Safety Officer and a clerk (both class 3 officers) of the Food Safety Department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) in a bribery case involving Rs. 45,000.
The complaint in this case had filed an online application to obtain a food license from SMC, which is required for selling fruits and vegetables in a rented shop. In exchange for processing the food license, the accused, Hemenkumar Gohil, Food Safety Officer of the Food Inspection Branch, Rander Zone of SMC, demanded a bribe of Rs. 45,000. Hemenkumar instructed the complainant to pay the bribe to another accused, Ghulam Yasin Nisar Hussain Sheikh, Administrative Clerk of the Food Department, Administrative Office.
As the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe, he contacted the ACB and filed a complaint. Later, the ACB set up a trap and caught the accused Sheikh red-handed while accepting the bribe. DeshGujarat
