Surat: A one-year-old boy named Gunjan lost his right eye and received over 100 stitches after a dog attacked him near a construction site on Kadodara-Palsana road
The incident took place on Monday afternoon at a construction site near Kadodara-Palsana road. The child was sleeping in a cradle when the dog pulled him out and severely bit his face and head.
Gunjan’s parents, Mohanbhai Rasoolbhai Madi and his wife, work and live at the construction site near the SR Petrol Pump on Kadodara-Palsana road. Upon hearing the incident, they, along with other residents, rushed to rescue the child from the dog. Due to the serious injuries, Gunjan was taken to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER) hospital via a 108 ambulance.
Resident doctors Dr. Priyam Shah and Dr. Jeel initially treated the boy in the emergency department. Gunjan received a rabies injection and immunoglobulin. A CT scan of his face and brain was conducted. A team of surgeons and plastic surgeons, including Dr. Isha Arora, decided to perform his operation that evening. Despite a four-hour surgery, the severity of the injuries led to the removal of Gunjan’s right eye. The child remains in the ICU for further treatment. DeshGujarat
