Vadodara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked the then-police inspectors of Manjalpur police station in a bribery case from the year 2019, involving a sum of Rs. 30,000.
As per the complaint filed by Police Inspector Chauhan of Vadodara City ACB Police Station, the plaintiff of a failed trap and his friend had rented out their Xylo and Swift Desire cars to a friend. However, that friend pawned the cars elsewhere. In order to retrieve the cars, the victims filed an application with the Manjalpur Police. The vehicles were seized by the Lakshmipura police, who then brought them to the Manjalpur Police Station. To release the vehicles, the then Police Inspector Zahurhusen Motamia Sindhi demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for one car and Rs 30,000 for two cars. However, as the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he filed a complaint with the ACB Vadodara City on 26/07/2019.
According to the complaint, the ACB set up a bribe trap but the accused did not accept the bribe money, suspecting it to be a trap, thereby leading to the failure of the bribe trap.
Later, after a legal investigation into the bribery demand, it was found that the accused had indeed demanded an illegal bribe of Rs. 30,000/- for personal benefit. This was corroborated by evidence obtained by the FSL during the investigation. Therefore, a case has been filed against the accused for misusing his position as a civil servant and soliciting bribes. DeshGujarat
