Gujarat BJP to get new President as Patil gets cabinet berth
June 11, 2024
Gandhinagar: With Gujarat BJP President C R Paatil becoming the Union Minister of Jal Shakti in the third Modi government, the party will soon appoint a new chief. Sources in the ruling party have stated that the appointment of the new party chief will take place in two to three days.
Paatil won the Navsari seat in the Lok Sabha election with a margin of 7.74 lakh votes, the largest in Gujarat for this election. Patil took over as BJP chief in July 2020 and his term as state president ended a few months ago, but he was asked to continue until the end of the Lok Sabha elections.
It is also learned that the next state party president is likely to be from the SC, ST, or OBC communities, and the party may also consider a woman for the position. Paatil, who succeeded Jitu Vaghani as president of the Gujarat BJP, led the party to significant victories in local body elections, the 2022 assembly election, Rajya Sabha elections, and the recent general election, where the BJP secured 25 of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
