Ahmedabad: The CID’s crime intelligence team on Wednesday arrested three people from Ramol for possessing fake currency notes with a face value of Rs. 15.3 lakh. The fake notes were allegedly intended to be delivered to a drug trafficker from Juhapura.
Acting on a tip-off about three men with counterfeit currency near the Ramol flyover, CID crime officers nabbed Satish Jinva, 32, Anil Rajat, 34, and Kaluram Meghwal, 39, all from Zalawad in Rajasthan. They seized 2,145 Rs 500 notes, 1,243 Rs 200 notes, and 2,110 Rs 100 notes, meant for delivery to Moinuddin Syed (Bapu) from Juhapura.
The investigation revealed that Moinuddin had met the trio in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, about two years ago. For every real rupee, the trio were to provide Rs 3 in fake currency. The counterfeit currency was produced in Bhanpura village, Mandsaur taluka, Madhya Pradesh, using a photocopier. The suspects had been involved in printing fake currency for about four years and had been jailed twice in Rajasthan in 2022 for possessing counterfeit currency.
Syed, who is accused of 14 offenses including murder, attempted murder, and assault, has also been detained. The three arrested individuals have been placed in 10 days of police custody. The seized fake notes have been sent for forensic examination. The Ahmedabad CID (crime) unit has filed a complaint under the Indian Penal Code sections related to counterfeiting currency, acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention, and criminal conspiracy.
