Cops suspended for extorting money from transporter in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Two police constables from Gandhinagar Infocity Police Station, Head Constable Chandrasekhar Gopalsingh and Constable Jitendrasingh Bhawansingh of PCR-3 and PCR-1, have been suspended following allegations of extorting Rs. 35,000 from a vehicle driver transporting cattle at Koba on the day of the Bakri Eid festival. The victim filed a complaint, prompting an investigation led by Gandhinagar SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetty.
The incident occurred when cow guards stopped the vehicle suspecting illegal animal handling, and the constables arrived at the scene. After the detaining the driver, Rs. 35,000 was seized from the him. Allegedly, each constable took Rs. 10,000 from this amount. Following the victim’s complaint, both constables initially fled but later surrendered to the police, proposing reconciliation.
Upon investigating the misconduct, SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetty suspended both constables, as they had acted beyond their law enforcement duties. Additionally, other complaints against Head Constable Chandresh and Constable Jitendra were also under investigation, resulting in their suspension.
