Narmada Canal water reaches Morbi’s Ghatila; MLA’s visit prompts syphon removal
June 23, 2024
Morbi: Water from the Narmada canal has successfully reached Morbi’s Ghatila after Morbi MLA Kantilal Amrutiya intervened due to complaints of blockage. MLA Amrutiya visited the canal on Thursday to investigate why the water was not progressing further. His visit prompted irrigation officials to remove the syphons blocking the water flow.
Following the MLA’s intervention, a team of approximately 60 officials from the irrigation department rushed to the site. Additionally, SRP jawans were deployed to ensure security along the canal. With the syphons removed, water is now flowing forward from the old Ghantila at a rate of one kilometer per hour, easing concerns about irrigation supply in the Morbi district.
MLA Amrutiya confirmed that the water is now expected to reach the Brahmani dam by June 22. He reassured farmers that if needed, water would also be diverted to the Machchhu-2 dam to meet agricultural demands. DeshGujarat
