3 BRTS electric buses caught in fire in Ahmedabad
June 25, 2024
Ahmedabad: Three buses of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) that run on the Janmarg Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) caught fire on Monday night.
The buses were all electric. They caught fire during rainfall. The incident took place at the Jadeshwar bus depot in Vastral, operated by the private operator JBM. While one bus caught fire presumably due to a short circuit, the fire spread to two adjacent buses parked nearby. JBM’s expert team from Mumbai will visit the spot.
Since the buses were parked and unoccupied, the damage was limited. Electric buses are relatively new in the city, and the administration is continuously learning lessons about their upkeep.
An AMC official informed : ‘Today midnight at Vastral depo, during charging process one E bus got fire and 2 other buses parked nearer also caught fire. All 3 buses were completely damaged by fire.
Chargers were also damaged. No one is injured. After fire department and poice inquiry exact reason will be known. But apparently during charging it happened.”
