Surat Crime Branch seizes MD drugs worth Rs 37 lakh; arrests seven

Surat: The Surat Crime Branch arrested seven people in connection with the mephedrone(MD) drug racket. The team apprehended two individuals at Surat Railway Station with 250 grams of MD drugs. Subsequent raids at five different locations in Surat today uncovered around 100 grams of MD drugs, bringing the total seized drugs and items worth ₹37.37 lakh.

Surat Crime Branch officials had received a tip-off that two people were transporting drugs on the evening Suryanagari train to Surat. Upon the train’s arrival, the team positioned themselves on the platform and caught a man named Safiq Khan Babukhan Pathan (40) and a woman named Rabia Abdul Razak Shaikh(43). 

Rabia and Safiq were drug peddlers from Mumbai and were caught with drugs before they could deliver. Rabia had supplied drugs to five individuals in Surat during her previous visits. She masterminded the operation and brought 250 grams of MD drugs in a school bag. The police seized cash, mobile phones, and MD drugs worth Rs 25 lakh from them at the railway station.

Police conducted raids at five other locations in Surat following the initial operation. They arrested five more individuals: Sarfaraz Gadhiyali, Faizal Kachra, Yasin Mulla, Ashfaq Yunisheikh, and Saiyed Hathi. During these raids, Sarfaraz was found with 28 grams whereas Yasin and Faisal were caught with 31 grams of MD drugs. Moreover, Ashfaq was caught with 14 grams and Saiyed Hathi had 27 grams of MD drugs.

In total, the Surat Crime Branch seized items worth Rs 37.37 lakh, including 354.650 grams of MD and 1.930 grams of ganja. Under the campaign of State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi to make Gujarat drug-free, the Surat Crime Branch executed a successful operation.
