Ahmedabad: The Squad of DCP Zone-7 of the city police has arrested three members of a car theft gang operating in a posh area of Ahmedabad. The accused had stolen four cars, including two luxury BMWs, one Baleno and one i20.
Car thefts have been occurring on SG Highway in Ahmedabad for some time, prompting complaints in various police stations. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended three suspects. The main accused, Yasar, works as a car glass repairman in a local garage. His modus operandi involved noting down details of cars that came in for service. Later, he recruited two youths from Dhoraji and together they stole the four cars. However, the accused were caught before they could sell the stolen vehicles.
A complaint was registered at Sarkhej police station after three vehicles, including two BMWs, were stolen from two garages near Shantipura Circle in the city. In one instance, Jeet Verma, a resident of Alpine Woods, handed his BMW over to Ashraf Khan Rangrez at Garage Tech for servicing.
The police initiated an investigation suspecting the involvement of a specific gang in the car thefts. During the examination of CCTV footage, it was found that two thieves committed the thefts in the early morning when traffic was low.
The police also believe that the presence of several car storage facilities in the area, some lacking adequate fencing, security, and CCTV cameras, contributed to the thefts. In both cases, the thefts occurred while the cars were parked outside the garages, drawing the attention of the thieves. DeshGujarat
