Gujarat sends DPR for Rs. 25,300 crore metro rail projects to Centre

Ahmedabad: The state government has sent a proposal worth Rs. 25,300 crore to the Union government for metro rail services in Vadodara and Rajkot and the expansion of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail. The government plans to extend the Ahmedabad metro to the city airport and within GIFT City.

The Gujarat government has submitted the detailed project report to the Union government and expects that the Centre will cover half of the project cost, said a newspaper report citing sources. It is also learned that once the Centre approves the funds, the state government will commence work on these projects, as the DPRs for all four have already been prepared.

As of now, the metro is running on two corridors in the city — Vastral-Thaltej and Vasna-Motera. The route connecting Motera in Ahmedabad with the state capital Gandhinagar is expected to start in the coming weeks. The metro connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will extend to Mahatma Mandir in the state capital, anticipated to be operational by year-end. DeshGujarat
