SMC to procure additional 20,000 RFID chips to track stray cattle
July 05, 2024
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to address the issue of stray cattle by purchasing an additional 20,000 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips. These chips are part of a new policy mandated by the High Court to track and manage stray cattle.
To comply with this policy, SMC will procure 20,000 more injectable RFID chips, tag kits, and visual ear tags at a cost of Rs 43 lakh. Currently, the corporation has only 5,558 chips and tags remaining, which may last two months. Hence, the decision to purchase additional RFID chips aims to sustain the ongoing efforts in managing stray cattle.
So far, SMC has utilised 59,442 chips and tags to register stray cattle across the city. With the impending shortage of RFID supplies, the administration has moved to secure approval for the procurement of additional chips and ear tags. DeshGujarat
