Rajkot: The construction of a permanent terminal at Rajkot’s Hirasar Airport is expected to be completed by August 15. However this upcoming terminal will only serve the needs for domestic flights operations.
A temporary terminal at Hirasar Airport is set up for passengers since last year for domestic passengers. This temporary terminal is actually meant to handle cargo movement. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has not started international operations in the current building as would be difficult due to the need for customs, immigration, airline offices, and passenger facilities. The new permanent terminal which is a permenent one is likely to open by August 15, but it will also initially cater only to domestic flights.
Plans are underway to build additional permanent terminals to accommodate international flights in the future. Until the new facilities are developed, the plans to start international flight operations from Rajkot Airport will remain on hold. DeshGujarat
