July 11, 2024
Gandhinagar: In a significant move aimed at enhancing in-building telecommunication services, the Gujarat Government has announced a new set of regulations under the Comprehensive General Development Control Regulations-2017 (CGDCR-2017). These changes, detailed in the latest notification from the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, are designed to improve the quality and reliability of telecommunication infrastructure across the state.
Effective from July 6, 2024, the regulations mandate that all buildings exceeding 15 meters in height, as well as commercial, educational, healthcare, and other public buildings, must integrate In-Building Solutions (IBS) for Common Telecommunication Infrastructure (CTI) to ensure robust telecommunication services. This includes high-speed data access, improved mobile and fiber broadband network quality, and reduced call drops.
Key provisions include mandatory IBS approvals from the Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell, proper allocation of space for telecom infrastructure within buildings, and fair access for all telecom service providers. These measures are expected to significantly improve telecommunication services across the state, supporting Gujarat’s digital infrastructure growth.
