Viral Ankleshwar job interview video; Gujarat govt shares the facts
July 11, 2024
Bharuch: The Gujarat government issued a rebuttal today regarding a video from Ankleshwar showing a crowd of job-seeking youths in a congested area yesterday. The state government circulated the version of the Employment Officer of Bharuch.
The rebuttal note informs – Thermax conducted a walk-in interview for various positions for experienced candidates at Ankleshwar based Hotel Lords Plaza through an advertisement in daily newspapers on July 7th. The company chose a very small space for the interview, with over 500 candidates in attendance. Crucially, the company did not inform the Employment Office of Bharuch about this interview. Since the interviews were exclusively for experienced persons only, the overall employment situation was unlikely to be affected.
The company’s failure to notify the Employment Office constitutes a breach of Section 4(2) of the Compulsory Notification of Vacancies and Vacancy Act (CNV Act 1959). The company could have participated in the recruitment fair organized by the Employment Office to conduct their recruitment interviews. Despite the gathering of over 500 individuals, the company did not arrange for police security or any other necessary arrangements – the rebuttal note explained.

The rebuttal came over 48 hours after the video was first put in circulation online. The main opposition Congress aprty tweeted the video earlier today and stated that this was Narendra Modi’s Gujarat model in which unemployed people’s crowd gathered for a job in Hotel in Bharuch in Gujarat. The Congress party’s tweet also stated that Narendra Modi is imposing this same unemployment model on the entire country.
However, the fact was that all jobs were for experienced people, which means they were already working elsewhere. This was a case of mismanagement, not unemployment. Also, it was not for some hotel job as the Congress party claimed in a tweet, but for a job in Thermax Industries.

The walk-in interviews were held for the positions of Shift In-charge, Plant Operator, Supervisor – DCS, Fitter – Mechanical, and Exclusive – ETP. It’s not known that for each position, how many candidates were to be selected. Though the interviews were for five positions, the qualification criteria for each position were different. This created a larger crowd, as youths with various educational and job experience backgrounds gathered there. The qualification criteria were BE-Chemical for one job, ITI-AOCP for another job, and B.Sc/M.Sc, ITI-Fitter for other jobs. The experience required for these jobs was in the range of 3 to 10 years. Having experience in the chemical industry was a must to appear for this interview, and Bharuch-Ankleshwar-Dahej is India’s topmost chemical industry pocket, so there were many candidates.
