Navsari battered with heavy rain, gets 11.4 inches rainfall

Navsari: Navsari district in South Gujarat has been battered by heavy downpours since Friday. In the last 30 hours, the district has received up to 11.4 inches of rain. In the last 24 hours, ending at 6 am today, the district received up to 5.2 inches of rain. However, clouds continue to heavily impact the area today, with Gandevi taluka receiving the highest rainfall of up to 5.7 inches between 6 am and 12 noon.

On the other hand, another district in South Gujarat, namely Valsad, has experienced heavy rains, with up to 4 inches of rainfall today from 6 to 12 noon. Gandevi, Valsad, Khergam, Chikli, and Pardi are the top five talukas of the state that have witnessed heavy rain so far today, three located in Navsari district and two in Valsad.

During the last 24 hours, which ended today at 6 am, Valsad had reported the highest rainfall, with just over 6 inches of rain. In the same period of 24 hours, Gandevi, Khergam, Navsari, Chikhli, and Jalalpore talukas of Navsari district received over 4 inches of rain.

Today, due to incessant heavy rain in the upper reaches of Navsari district, rivers are flowing bank to bank. Heavy rains in the uplands have raised the water level of the Kaveri River. In Dang district, heavy rains have increased the water level of the Kaveri River by more than a foot. As the river water rises, the bridge connecting Ataliya Undach is on the verge of overflowing. If this bridge is submerged, many villages will have to take a long detour.

Khadsad village in Jalalpore taluka of Navsari district has been inundated with rainwater, leading to the closure of the main road due to waterlogging, causing hardship for many residents.

In Gandevi, the water level of the Kaveri River has risen by 1 foot, reaching 9.50 feet. Additionally, the levels of Juj and Kalia dams located in Vansda district have also increased. The water level at Juj Dam rose by 0.30 meters, while at Kalia Dam it rose by 0.60 meters.

Rainfall has been recorded in 168 talukas of the state in the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today. The highest rainfall was 6 inches in Valsad, followed by 5 inches in Gandevi and Khergam, 5 inches in Navsari, 4 inches in Pardi, Chikhli, and Jalalpur, and 4 inches in Vapi and Umargam.

The Indian Meteorological Department in its latest forecast has issued a yellow warning for some districts of South Gujarat, including Navsari, as the region is expected to receive heavy rain in the coming days. DeshGujarat
