Gujarat ACB book several cops in different bribery cases

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Gujarat has recently booked several police personnel in different bribery cases across the state.

In the first case from the Ahmedabad Rural area, the complainant was arrested five months ago by the Viramgam Rural Police in an alleged false prohibition case. The accused police constable, Rajesh Kumar Patel, from the Viramgam Rural Police Station, intimidated the complainant and threatened to implicate him in another false case, extorting Rs. 50,000 from him. Later, the accused demanded an additional Rs. 30,000. However, as the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe, he contacted the ACB. In a subsequent trap, another accused, Bharatbhai Thakor, accepted the bribe amount of Rs. 30,000 on behalf of the cop from the complainant and was caught on the spot. The accused cop was also detained.

In another case in Banaskantha, an application was submitted at Suigam Police Station by the complainant. However, the accused, Taloj Kumar Ven, a head constable at the station, was investigating the case and demanded a bribe of Rs. 8,000 to settle the application. The complainant did not want to pay the bribe amount, so he contacted the ACB and filed a complaint. A bribe trap was arranged, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. He has been detained, and further action is being taken.

In another case, the witness and his friend had driven their car from the Bamanpuja check post in 2021. After that, the accused, Dayanand Gamit, a police constable posted at the Police Headquarters in Valsad, told the witness and his friend that their car would be seized and would not be released for a month. To avoid the seizure of the car, he demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000. However, the witness recorded the conversation on his mobile phone and subsequently filed a complaint with the Dang and Valsad ACB. After the investigation into the case, the accused cop has now been booked in a bribery case on Saturday.  DeshGujarat
