Gujarat ranks 4th in organizing employment fairs during 2023-24

Delhi: Gujarat has secured 4th position nationwide in conducting employment fairs during 2023-24. The state organised 704 job fairs, according to data released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. This effort is part of a broader initiative to enhance employment opportunities and improve employability across India.
A total of 8,379 employment fairs were conducted nationwide in 2023-24. In comparison, Uttar Pradesh leads with 1,239 job fairs, while Odisha is second with 988 fairs. Bihar and Maharashtra are ranked 3rd and 5th with 666 and 578 fairs, respectively. States with fewer fairs include Sikkim with 12 and Mizoram with 7.

The Government of India prioritizes employment generation and employability improvement. Various ministries, such as the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Rural Development, and others, are implementing schemes to generate employment.
These include the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Rural Self Employment and Training Institutes (RSETIs), Deen Dayal Antodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), etc including increased capital expenditure for boosting employment creation.
