ACB nabs Assistant TDO of AMC and middleman engineer in bribe case involving Rs. 20 lakh bribe

Ahmedabad: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat Police today nabbed an Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) official for seeking and taking Rs. 20 lakh bribe money.

The accused Harshad Bhojak is Assistant Town Development Officer(ATDO). He is class-2 officer of government. The other accused Ashish Patel is common citizen.

According to ACB, a complainant in this case had ancestoral land with presence of houses and shops in it. AMC had took possession and demolished them. The tenants of shops had initiated legal procedure and they were told that if they produce required evidences at AMC office, an alternate arrangement will be made.


Accordingly, a complainant met a Government approved engineer Ashish Patel.  Ashish connected the complainant to ATDO Harshad Bhojak. Bhojak demanded Rs. 50 lakh bribe initially for himself and Rs. 10 lakh for Ashish. Later after bargaining, the final sum of bribe was fixed at Rs. 20 lakh.

A complainant, unwilling to pay bribe, contacted ACB, following which a trap was arranged and the accused was held after the bribe money was handed over to him. The trap was laid and executed at office number 418 – Akshar space infrastructure, Ratna business square, opposit Chinubhai Tower on Ashram Road.

Meanwhile, when AMC team searched Bhojak’s Pragatinagar, Ahmedabad based flat late in the evening in presence of witness, Rs. 73 lakh cash and gold biscuit worth Rs. 4.50 lakh – in total Rs. 77 lakh plus items were found and seized.
