Rain upto 10 inches in Valsad, Auranga river above danger mark, 85353 cusecs outflow in Damanganga

Valsad: The Auranga River passing through Valsad is flowing above the danger mark, due to which the bridge over this river at Kailash Road has been closed for traffic. Valsad district has been receiving incessant downpour since Friday, during the last 36 hours, it has recorded 10.3 inches of rainfall.

During the 24 hours that ended at 6 AM this morning, the district recorded up to 7 inches of rainfall. In that period, the top five talukas that received the highest rainfall in the state were all in Valsad, namely Vapi, Kaprada, Pardi, Dharampur, and Umergaon. Furthermore, from 6 AM to 6 PM today, Kaprada taluka continued to be lashed by rain, recording up to 3.4 inches of rainfall.

During the 12 hours from 6 AM to 6 PM today, Dharampur, Pardi, Valsad, and Vapi talukas also received rainfall of up to 3.2, 2.5, 2.1, and 2.0 inches, respectively.

Damanganga, which is linked to Valsad, has an inflow of water as high as 65,203 cusecs and an outflow of 85,353 cusecs downstream, with 10 gates opened at a 2-meter size as of 5 PM today.

The district administration has closed the river bridge at Kailash Road and put up barricades, with police personnel deployed there. People from around 40 villages have been affected as they have to take a diversion of 20–25 km due to the closure of the bridge.

With the rise in the water level of the Ambika River, which flows into the Auranga River, the administration has alerted several villages. To avoid any mishaps, the Valsad Fire Department is alerting people in low-lying areas. Residents of Valsad, Pardi, Kashmir Nagar, Tariyawad, and Bhagdakhurd have been notified.

Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Valsad and adjoining districts, with predictions of very heavy rains and extremely heavy falls during the next 24 hours. DeshGujarat
