Gandhinagar: On August 15th, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat organized a program to honor individuals who raised their voices against corruption and approached the ACB. A total of 533 complainants were honored across 37 ACB police stations.

At the ACB’s head office in Ahmedabad, 45 complainants from Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Rural, and Gandhinagar ACB posts were present and honored by ACB Director Shamsher Singh. During the program, 82-year-old Becharbhai Madhabhai Solanki, a retired primary school teacher, was also recognized as despite being a senior citizen, he demonstrated awareness in the fight against corruption in 2023.

About three years ago, Solanki applied for a subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in his wife’s name. As per of the scheme’s Rs. 2,30,000/- was deposited in installments in his bank account, with Rs. 1,20,000/- still due. When Solanki approached the concerned employee of Dehgam Municipality to deposit the remaining amount, the employee demanded a bribe of Rs. 4,000/-. Instead of paying the bribe, Solanki chose to fight against corruption and approached the ACB in Gandhinagar, leading to the arrest of the corrupt official.

It is also noteworthy that under the “CARE” program, implemented by the Director on January 26th, Bureau officers and employees have personally visited the residences of 1,317 complainants up until August 15th to ensure that they do not face any difficulties or harassment. DeshGujarat
