Vadodara: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today allocated Rs. 316.78 crore for the construction of the Ring Road in Vadodara under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme.

The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) had proposed the need for a ring road to facilitate well-planned development and ease traffic congestion in the Vadodara metropolis and its surrounding industrial areas. Following this proposal, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved Rs. 316.78 crore for VUDA for the construction of the ring road.

The Ring Road will span 66 km in length and 75 meters in width. The first phase, covering 27.58 km, will have a width of 45 meters. With the allocation of funds for the first phase, construction work is set to accelerate. The initial phase will involve 10.70 km in the eastern area and 16.84 km in the western area.

This development will reduce the traffic load on the road leading to the Statue of Unity-Ekta Nagar and will ease vehicular traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway-8.

VUDA had in 2006 made a development plan for the city in which this 75 meters ring road was mentioned. The development plan was approved in 2012. After over a decade of that, the plan has got some actual push.

The ring road in Western side is planned in 16.84 km  length including 13.89 km Koyli-Sherkhi-Sindhrot state highway to Chapad limit and 2.95 km road connecting the State highway. The ring road in the West will connect the national highway through three state highways – Vadodara-Padra, Vadodara-Sevasi-Sindhrot and Vadodara-Undera-Koyli through Chapad-Chansad-Itola-Por.

On tEastern side, a 10.74 km long Vadodara-Ajwa, Vadodara-Vaghodiya, Vadodara-Dabhoi side connection to the State highway will be achieved.

If East and West combined scenario is asssessed , the 27.58 km length 75 meter wide propose road’s 45 meter wide works will be taken up in the first phase.

It’s worth noting that VUDA had shortage of fund due to which it had implemented TP schemes keeping the proposed 75 meters road in focus and also procured land through Kapaat. The 75 meters wide ring road’s total length is 66 km. A 10.70 km long road in Eastern area which is open. In Westeern area 16.84 km long ring road’s around 12 km road in Chapad, Bil, Bhyli etc area is also open through TP schemes implementation. VUDA has also got possesion of these lands.  DeshGujarat
