Khambhaliya had nearly 18 inch rain in 24 hours; Jamnagar over 15 inch

Gandhinagar: District headquaters Khambhlaiya in coastal Devbhoomi Dwarka district received nearly 18 inches of rainfall in 24 hours period from 27 August 6 am to 28 August 6 am. Another coastal district headquarters in Saurashtra region, Jamnagar received over 15 inches of rainfall in same period. The districts of Saurashtra region namely Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Rajkot topped the chart of 24 hours taluka-wise rainfall data.

In response to torrential rains and forecasts of further heavy downpours, the district administration of Jamnagar has announced a holiday for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools today as a precautionary measure.

The aftermath of the heavy rains has left Jamnagar’s Circuit House knee-deep in water, while low-lying areas in the rural regions of Lalpur and Jamjodhpur are also flooded. The Bhimwas area faces waist-deep water on the roads, severely impacting residents as water seeps into their homes. Punitnagar in Jamnagar city is experiencing significant flooding, exacerbating long-standing issues of waterlogging during the monsoon season. Visuals from the Jamnagar bus depot showed several buses parked in water, which was reaching up to their windows, meaning half of each bus is submerged underwater. For the past two days, life in Jamnagar city and its rural areas has come to a standstill due to the relentless flooding.
