Traffic jam on Udaipur – Shamlaji section of National Highway 48
September 04, 2024
Peepli: A kilometers-long traffic jam occurred on the Udaipur-Shamlaji section of National Highway 48 near the Peepli area as the highway became inundated and waterlogged due to heavy rains and the overflowing of a lake in Kesariyaji.
As a consequence of the waterlogging, approximately 10 kilometers of traffic jam persisted for over 12 hours, with hundreds of trucks stranded while traveling between Gujarat and Rajasthan. Visuals show vehicles submerged in water, with some trucks appearing to be half-submerged. Additionally, the heavy rainfall has led to soil erosion from nearby mountains, further complicating the situation.
Authorities are working to clear the highway and assist stranded vehicles, while local residents and commuters are urged to avoid the affected area until conditions improve. It is also learned that a temporary canal has been made in Peepli to drain the water from the highway.
As per the latest Google Maps imagery, traffic has started moving slowly on the route. DeshGujarat
