1.5 lakh students from Anganwadis and AMC schools to get 200ml milk

Ahmedabad: Around 62,000 children from the city’s anganwadis and 88,000 from municipal schools will receive 200ml of milk daily. This decision was made during the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) standing committee meeting on Thursday.

Standing committee chairman Devang Dani mentioned that AMC runs 2,135 anganwadi centers. Initially, the plan was to provide 200ml of milk daily to 62,263 children aged three to six years. However, the proposal was revised to also offer 200ml of milk three days a week to students in Classes 1 to 5 of board schools. As per the state government’s plan, milk will be distributed in both schools and anganwadis.

In another decision, a proposal to construct a food court at the Vastrapur Lake amphitheater was returned to the municipal commissioner for further review.

Dani also announced that starting on September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, a week-long cleanliness campaign will be launched, featuring several citywide events. Additionally, public infrastructure work in societies, supported by increased applications under the public participation scheme, will receive Rs 5 crore per zone by Diwali for improvements such as roads, streetlights, and sewers.
