PM Modi meets beneficiaries of PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana in Vavol, Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today started the second day of his visit to the home state of Gujarat by interacting with beneficiaries of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ in the Vavol area of Gandhinagar. He arrived at the Shalin-2 society around 10 AM, spoke with residents from various households, and spent about 20 minutes at the residential complex.

During the visit, he interacted with people who have installed solar panels on their rooftops as part of the Central government initiative launched on February 29, with a budget of ₹75,021 crore.

The PM visited bungalow number 53 in Shalin-2 Society in Vavol and observed the solar panel on the roof. He also spoke with the bungalow owner, Jagshibhai Suthar, and his wife on the roof for about 18 minutes. Residents of the surrounding society gathered on the roof to see the Prime Minister and raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

Vavol has a total of 100 apartments and 25 bungalow schemes, with 14,000 registered voters. Eighty-nine families have benefited from the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Of the 65 bungalows in Shalin-2 Society, 22 houses have solar panels.

Gandhinagar corporator and former mayor Premalsinh Gol told the media that the Prime Minister came here because Vavol is very close to Mahatma Mandir. The Gandhinagar city-district has benefited the most under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

Before the Prime Minister’s visit, Shalin-2 Society Chairman Suresh Chaudhary stated, “This solar project is an ambitious plan by the PM. The subsidized solar initiative provides financial benefits to homeowners while also reducing pollution caused by electricity generation. Twenty-two houses in our society have operational solar systems, and every building owner is reaping good financial benefits. We, the residents of Vavol, can say with absolute confidence that we will see the benefits of this solar installation in 100% of the houses, spreading the advantages of free electricity to everyone.”

The government has established a subsidy for residential houses under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. A subsidy of ₹30,000 is available for a rooftop solar plant with a capacity of 1 kilowatt, ₹60,000 for a 2-kilowatt solar plant, and ₹78,000 for a 3-kilowatt solar plant, as determined by the Central Government. The total benefit of this scheme is expected to reach 1 crore families in India, with the central government planning to invest ₹75,000 crores to provide free electricity. Of this, 20 lakh households in Gujarat will benefit from the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. DeshGujarat
