Police nab 3 in train derailment attempt case

Surat: A Local Crime Branch of Surat has detained three persons for “attempt of derailing the train’ case. One of three accused is identified as Subhash Poddar, a railway staffer. Prima facie investigation revealed that fish plates and padlocks of railway track were removed and reported by Subhas Poddar and aides to get promition, prize money, one and half days leave which is granted by railways to prevent mishaps and attention in social media.

Railway staffer Subhash Poddar had informed police about removal of fishins plates, keys and padlocks on railway track near Kim railway station, early in the morning on Saturday.  During its investigation, Police found that the removal of the fish plate and padlock was completed within a 22-minute window. Three trains passed over the track between 4:38 and 4:58 a.m., after which it was reported at 5:20 a.m. that the 2 fish plate and 71 padlock had been removed. Railway linemen were under suspicion because only an insider person can have know how and tools of removing fish plates, padlock etc in limited time.  The fish plate, keys, and padlocks on the up line track were removed and placed back on the same track on Saturday morning.

The police have been interrogating the accused, and the accused have reportedly confessed they did it. The NIA initially suspected Subhash, as 71 padlocks cannot be removed by an average person in a short time.
